Welcome!

My name is Darsy, and I'm a lapsed perfectionist.

I used to love the phrase 'defeated perfectionist.' I still do, but that name was taken although the more I think about it, I like 'lapsed' a little better. See, I'm not completely defeated yet. I still have perfectionist aspirations, I just don't strive for them like I used to; they're more of a happy discovery than a goal nowadays. I think that has a lot to do with being a parent, heh.

It's like when you were a kid and you wanted your mom to butter your toast for you, because she always seemed to do it better. Then you got a bit older and realized that she never got rightupclose to the crust the way you like, so you started buttering your own toast. After a while you didn't have time to spend five minutes meticulously buttering toast, so the pursuit of perfect toast fell by the wayside, right up until you realize that your two year-old refuses to eat her crusts. You can't kick the niggling feeling that she'd probably eat them if the toast were buttered properly. Too bad!

On this blog I'll be writing about my craft projects, mothering my little girl, and various happenstance. I admire blogs like Hyperbole and a Half, a friend's blog which I've utterly forgotten the URL for (I feel terrible, gah), and The Adventures of the Gingerbread Lady; I'd love to make a crafty, clever mama blog. We'll see what I end up with instead ;)

Funny Story Time:
Short one this time--yesterday my nearly two year-old plopped a mixing spoon on my lap and said quite clearly, 'you should be cooking, mama.' Oh man.

ps. I have to laugh--the interface for posting here on blogger included a helpful suggestion when I clicked in the 'Title' field: 'Mrs.' I mean, wow, I'm usually literal, but I'm not THAT bad!

NOTE: Let me know if the text for the body of the post is too unreadable in this font. I love it, but not enough to torture any possible readers.
